"Ordinary World" - GET SET GO
Fitting title, but depressing as hell: "Another ordinary day
In an ordinary world
With ordinary boys fucking ordinary girls
In an ordinary time
So ordinary that we are losing our minds
So what you gonna do?
The choice is up to you"
*Waking Up*
"Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da"
"Ob-la-di, ob-la-dawhat a bra
How does it stay on?
Life goes on
La la life goes on
*First Day at School*
"Fuck You" - Garfunkel and Oates
What? Just what? Maybe the first verse would fit:
"I've got too many questions in my mind
And I've got so many answers left to find [. . .]
I like you, I like you, I like you
And like can lead to like-like, and like-like can lead to love
Sure as the stars above, I'd really like tokiss fuck you."
*Childhood*
"Carry On" - Dispatch
"Someday...
I will carry you"
*Falling in Love*
"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" - The Jellyfish
This is probably better as a break-up song...
"Say goodnight, your song is through
Faint refrain we hardly knew
Comes crashin' against the drunken waters of this wake when I hesitate
Because all I can say is 'too much, too little, too late'
Farewell, you fool
Spare me the punch line please, I learned it well at Sunday school
Way back when all you loved was the grease paint, not the collection plate
So much for the funny face
Because all I can say is 'too much, too little, too late'"
*Fight Song*
"She is Beautiful" - Andrew WK
Oh, HELL YES!
"I never knew girls existed like you [. . .]
You're giving me moves that hit from all sides
and when you are hitting like that you melt my eyes [. . .]
She is beautiful"
*Breaking Up*
"Lullabye (Good Night, My Angel)" - Billy Joel
So fitting!
"Goodnight my angel, now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we sent sailing on an emerald bay"
*High School*
"Tickle Cove Pond" - Great Big Sea
This is a song about a horse falling into a pond, but...
"We're up against troubles that few people know
It's only by courage and patience and grit
And eatin' plain food to keep ourselves fit
The hard and the easy, we take as they come."
*Prom*
"LARPing" - Natural Wood
OH HOLY MOTHER OF GOD YES!
"I unbutton my shirt
Let it fall to the dirt
You know that I'm no farmer
In my homemade armor!
Yes we are LARPing
L-A-R-P-I-N-G
Yes we are LARPing
Please have sex with me!"
Best. Prom. Ever.
*Life*
"Let's Kill Hitler" - Doctor Who Quote, that is in fact on my iTunes
...Does this mean I'm going to be a companion? PLEASE?
"I was on my way to this gay gypsy bar mitzvah for the disabled when I though, 'Gosh, the Third Reich's a bit rubbish. I think I'll kill the Fuhrer.'"
*College*
"Only Trying to Help" - Orson
This would be perfect for those days when I was crazy stressed, but wouldn't have traded them for anything in the world.
"Hey, there's a million ways to do the same thing
I know I don't always get it
But you gotta give me credit now[. . .]
Communication shakedown
It's always the same thing
You're still my favorite meltdown
I give you everything"
*Mental Breakdown*
"Scars of Time" - Piano Squall
Quite fitting, considering what many of my mental breakdowns have revolved around.
*Driving*
"Be Prepared" - The Lion King
I...what? Yes, be prepared when I'm on the road!
"But thick as you are, PAY ATTENTION!"
*Flashback*
"Don't Let Go" - Bryan Adams, for the Spirit Soundtrack.
Such a calming song...why didn't this pop up for falling in love?!
"You give me something that I can believe in
(Don't let go of this moment in time)
Go of this moment in time[. . .]
Now, would you mind if I bared my soul?"
*Getting Back Together*
"I Love You Honey" - Patsy Cline
Hahahahaha!
"I love you honey
I love your money
I love your automobile
I love you baby
I don't mean maybe
You're the sweetest thing on wheels
I love your kisses
I wouldn't miss it
No matter how I feel
I love you honey
I love your money
Most of all I love your automobile."
*Wedding*
"A Foggy Day" - Michael Buble
"For suddenly I saw you there
And through foggy London town the sun was shining everywhere"
*Birth of Child*
"Traveling' Solider" -Dixie Chicks
No. Saddest random pick ever.
"I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' solider
Our love will never end, waitin' for the solider to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter said the solider's comin' home"
Spoiler: the solider doesn't come home.
*Final Battle*
"Johnny Tarr" - Gaelic Storm
"And even if you saw it yourself you wouldn't believe it"...it was THAT AWESOME of a fight.
*Death Scene*
"1,000 Years" - Christina Perri
Don't judge me! I really like the song...
"All of my doubt
Suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer
I have died everyday
Waiting for you
Darlin' don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more"
Damn...The whole song fits surprisingly well.
*Funeral Song*
"Fat Bottomed Girls" - QUEEN
Well, I do have a pretty glorious ass, and always did say that there would be a DJ at my funeral...
"Fat-bottomed girls, you make the rockin' world go 'round!"
*End Credits*
"The Weight of Words" - The Town Pants
Another good song:
"Words on a page can weigh a ton
When the past is not undone
Now as an old man
I think of all the things I've done
'Cause I've lived my whole life
Like a bullet from a gun
I look back at myself
And when I was 21
And when I'd read that book
Of foreign lands and all or none
I wonder if my heirs
Will think of what I've done
And if the sins of the father
Will visit the son"

Encourage a Young Writer Day!
April 10 is Encourage a Young Writer Day! To spread some encouragement around DA, I've asked other writers to submit some writing advice that will hopefully inspire you, or at least give you a few ideas if you feel stuck. I also encourage everyone to keep an open mind as they read through these. What works for me may not work for you, and that's okay. Take from these whatever helps you, and don't worry about the rest. I hope everyone reading this will take something positive away from these submissions! First up, @VoidStarAbyss gives some advice on passion, first drafts, and more. Next, @MyDarkestHearts offers advice on rejection: Some advice from yours truly about the importance of setting things on fire: A lovely poem by @SheWritesLovelyPoems on the most important tool in your writer's toolbox: words themselves. @laraSZ2 offers advice on language and passion... ...while @PeppercornCapricorn on the dangers of writing advice (I've always been a fan of irony)
Community Self Survey
This has been floating around, but I stole it from @DC-26. While I've got you here, please check out my not-quite-a-contest for Encourage a Young Writer Day in April! Meaning of my Username: "Quixotic" has always been one of my favorite words, and with so many big dreams, I think it suits me. "Apricot" comes from college. I was sitting on my bed reading when my roommate and her boyfriend walked in. He said something like, "honey, Kaye turned into a giant apricot." I only joined DA so I could follow my college friends over the summer, so QuixoticApricot became my user name. If I'd known then how much I'd actually use DA, I would have chosen something less silly. The ironic thing is that I don't even like apricots. One Meal to Rule Them All: Chicken parmesan, with lots of cheese, followed by a slice of my mom's triple chocolate cake. Best Gift Ever: A puppy! Christmas morning when I was 3 or 4. I still remember coming downstairs that morning and seeing a blur run by me in the
Encourage a Young Writer! Submissions Wanted!
April 10 is "Encourage a Young Writer Day" and I want to celebrate it here on DA! What is the best piece of writing advice you've received? What is something you've learned along your writing journey? Share it with us! Submit a deviation (not a journal comment!) with your writing advice to encourage new writers, as well as those of us who have been around for awhile. Everyone who submits writing advice will be receive a diamond badge and hype badge. Your advice will be featured in a journal on April 10. Any format your advice takes is allowed! Prose, poetry, a short comic...even an interpretive dance. (It's a bit of a stretch, but if you can make it work, who am I to stop you?) To be eligible to receive badges: :bulletgreen: Submit your advice as a DEVIATION ONLY, not a journal comment. I want to get lots of writing advice out into the world, and only I will see it if it's a journal comment. I also can't feature comments in the same way I can feature deviations in the journal
Feature: LipsterLeo
Due to just...so many things, I still owe a few prizes for my Folk Lore contest. Now that my life is back on track, I'm finally getting them out...re-starting with a feature for @LipsterLeo ! If you're a fan of Brian Jacques or Don Bluth, I think you'll find something you'll like in his work.
